- Test the technology before the visit;
- Choose a private location with minimal background noise. You will want to be able to discuss your health care issues in private, free from distractions and interruptions;
- Find a well-lit location and make sure your camera is steady. Make sure there is good lighting so your health care provider can see your face clearly. Turn any music, television, or video games off for the duration of your appointment;
- Make sure you are in the middle of the screen and the camera is at eye level. What you see on your screen is the same thing the provider will see so it is important to make sure that you are close to the screen and looking straight into the camera;
- Close other applications on your device to improve your internet connection and reduce distractions;
- Stay focused. Try to avoid eating or drinking during your appointment. Do not do a telehealth visit while you are driving, exercising, or running errands;
- Dress appropriately. Patients should dress appropriately for their consultation as they would be for an in-person appointment;
- Please be on time. Patients should be punctual and ready to start the virtual consultation on time.
